Reading Programs and Room Takeovers

Every reading program needs a visual world, and every year that world has to be new. This covers the environmental and installation design across multiple Summer Reading and Winter Reading Challenge seasons — hanging ceiling installations, entryway takeovers, large-format display walls, program carts, decorated stacks, the winter polar bear and snowflake build-out, the 2023 and 2024 Summer Reading decoration sets, and the seasonal signage that tied it together. Environmental design has a constraint screen design doesn't: people walk through it. Sightlines matter, scale matters, and something that photographs beautifully can fail completely if it hangs at the wrong height. Designing for a physical room made me much more careful about how a viewer actually encounters a thing — which is worth asking about a landing page too.
