Step Challenge Website/App Design

Project Overview
As co-chair of the Wellness Committee and communications coordinator, I led the design of an innovative step challenge platform aimed at promoting employee health and fostering team collaboration. This cross-platform solution includes both a mobile app and website interface, designed to engage and motivate staff members in their wellness journey.

The Challenge

  • Employees needed an engaging, accessible way to participate in company wellness initiatives

  • Platform had to work seamlessly across both mobile and desktop devices

  • Interface needed to be intuitive enough for users with varying technical abilities

  • Design required integration with existing company wellness programs

My Role & Process

  • Working alongside our tech team, particularly our developer Shawn, I:

  • Led the UX/UI design process from conception to implementation

  • Created detailed wireframes applying principles from Google Coursera's User Experience Design course

  • Collaborated closely with development to ensure seamless front-end and back-end integration

  • Conducted user testing with staff members to refine the interface

Design Solutions

  • The final design features:

    • Nature-inspired visual theme promoting outdoor activity and wellness

    • Intuitive mobile-first interface with clear call-to-action buttons

    • Interactive map integration for tracking walking routes

    • Cross-platform functionality allowing users to switch between devices

    • Gamification elements to encourage ongoing participation

Technical Implementation

  • Developed responsive layouts that adapt seamlessly between mobile and desktop views

  • Created cohesive design system with consistent typography, color palette, and UI components

  • Implemented accessibility features following WCAG guidelines

  • Designed for scalability to accommodate future wellness initiatives

Impact & Results

  • The platform has been enthusiastically received by staff, with:

    • High engagement rates among employees

    • Positive feedback on the nature-themed design

    • Increased participation in wellness initiatives

    • Strengthened sense of community among team members
